After “Mother’s Day”, ”Father’s Day”, “Women’s Day”, “Music Day”
the world now has a “World Art Day”!

This year for the first time, the world will start celebrating with the International Associations of Art, “World Art Day” on April 15.

Last year at the World General Assembly Meeting of International Art Associations (IAA) in Mexico/Guadalajara, Turkey’s National Committee (UPSD) President Bedri Baykam had presented a proposal which suggested that Leonardo da Vinci’s birthday, April 15, be declared World Art Day (WAD).

Leonardo’s never out-of-fashion multi-faceted personality as a painter, sculptor, thinker, writer, innovator, mathematician and philosopher was a perfect choice for today’s contemporary world as well with its multi-disciplinary artistic and politico-social layers.

All the national committees of World Art Associations will be contributing to World Art Day, through festivities, exhibitions, panel discussions, posters, banners and parties, thus emphasizing the role of art in reaching peace and freedom. At this point, from Mexico to Brazil, from France to Sweden, from Slovakia to South Africa, from Cyprus to Venezuela, from Norway to Panama, from Holland to Chile, from Japan to China, all continents are getting ready to celebrate the IAA / World Art Day with different ways and means.

One more point to clear is that, April 15 is aWorld Art Day to celebrate for all artists and art lovers of the world, not just those that are member of IAA. The idea is to create a day that would emphasize the importance of art to everybody from all ages and races. Every gallery, museum, art center, university and artists are free to organize their own activities and join the celebration.

The President of IAA World, Mexican Rosa Maria Burillo Velasco said about the first World Art Day:

“Art is the most genuine expression of the human soul, shaped in images words, sounds and movements enduring reflections that describe us the story of humanity race. World Art Day will permit to all the artists and art lovers of the world, to feel the power and the preciousness of art simultaneously and let all of us breathe its importance all nations of the World.”

The kind contribution of all the world press is welcome and required for this good news!
